I was wondering if anyone ever felt pressured or manipulated into doing something they felt uncomfortable or were made to feel like they were a bad teacher because they weren’t “putting students first?”

My admin knows I have a very rough class this year. We’ve done many interventions and given extra support to many.
We’ve ALL also been through a global pandemic.
I’ve never had issues with my admin here. But she now thinks I am not building relationships with my class and that maybe the population of the school isn’t a good fit all of a sudden for me. Yet before this year she’s never had a negative word to say about me in that area.

Yet, she said we need to always do what’s best for the kids. Nevermind that I’ve had to increase my anxiety meds this year AND have started having blood pressure issues. Nevermind the fact that I’ve put in more hours outside of the school day this year than I’ve ever done. Nevermind I’ve followed protocols whenever there’s a major issue.

Maybe if they follow through on discipline and hold students and parents accountable then things school wide could improve. Maybe if they truly cared about teacher wellbeing, we could actually be the best teachers for the students.

I’m so sick of teachers not mattering!!! I guess we’re not allowed to have a rough time ever.

I think “ kids first “ is always gas lighting. Kids first doesn’t mean teachers get treated like crap. We are people too.
I literally hate that phrase .

I tested positive for Covid one week before my spring concert. I did everything in my power to try and reschedule the concert and I was upfront with parents as to why the concert had been canceled. Most parents responded back with well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery. One parent decided she needed to attack me for taking away the “kids’ joy of being able to perform” despite the fact that there are two other performances left for the school year. And when I didn’t respond right away, because I was out with Covid, she decided she needed to email a second time trying persuading me that the concert needs to be put back on. I’m thankful that my principal has my back on this because otherwise I would be forced to have my kids put on a performance that they’re not ready for and that I’m quite honestly unable to make it through because Covid put me through the ringer. But “kids first.” Sure 🙄
