My principal called me in about a parent complaining that I asked her son to identify as male or female or nonbinary- she said the parent thought it was developmentally inappropriate. Also, mom didn’t want me playing BTS (the kpop group)music in class because she “didn’t agree with what they stand for “. WTF?!?! So I agreed to meet with the parent, and she kept asking to see where in the curriculum it said I should be asking her son to identify as male or female- I told her it was for an activity where kids compare themselves to a classmate, as our curriculum asks students to write paragraphs comparing two things. Anyways- she was not satisfied, DEFINITELY didn’t like my pride flag or me saying I taught kids to be accepting and kind to everyone, and is asking my principal to move her kid out of my class and for me to be “punished “.
