When I was in elementary school the governor of the state called my city “Murderapolis”. I went to high school in an area full of gangs and violence. Columbine happened my freshman year. I never once worried about being shot at school. Not once. School was safe. Now I teach in a small town with one stoplight. I am worried every day that own kids, my students, and I will be shot and killed at school.
