So supposedly our board is looking at creating a policy that will no longer allow teachers to keep kids in at recess because of defiant behavior. My understanding is “Jimmy” can refuse to do any or all work in the room (and I have a few of these students in my room) and I will not be able to keep him in at time recess. What is the natural consequence supposed to be?! My admin said that one option would be to send things home for extra homework... :/
We are at midterms 1/2 way through the school year. I just got a new student assigned to my chemistry class. I asked him where he left off in chemistry in his last school. He tells me he has never taken chemistry before. I emailed guidance to let them know that he was incorrectly placed. I received a response stating that he has not been incorrectly placed, he is a senior and needs chemistry to graduate. Therefore it is my responsibility to "get him caught up" so he can pass and graduate this year. He's missed 1/2 the year.... And I'm just supposed to "catch him up"
